To LOSS Operators and Owners:

We have had several inquiries about collecting and analyzing compliance samples from LOSS systems, and while it is important to ensure that our on-site sewage systems are working properly, it is also extremely important that we do all we can to ensure the safety and health of our LOSS users, operators, and owners. After consideration of the risks and the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order:

We are suspending all permit sampling requirements for Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of 2020 (January 1 - June 30, 2020). Please work with a DOH LOSS engineer regarding other permit requirements.
Responses to failures, and routine maintenance activities to prevent failures are identified as “Essential Activities” and should continue (see DOH Document “Identify Essential Functions for Onsite Sewage Systems (OSS) and Large OSS (LOSS) Operation").
Sampling and monitoring requirements will resume for Quarters 3 and 4, 2020 (July 1 – December 31, 2020).

To LOSS Operators and Owners

Governor Inslee’s Proclamation 20-25, “Stay Home – Stay Healthy” bans non-essential businesses in Washington State from doing business effective midnight March 25th to midnight April 6, 2020.  In order to ensure residents served by onsite sewage systems (both large and small) are protected from failures, the Washington State Department of Health published a document identifying essential activities involved with responding to on-site sewage system failures and prevention of failures.

The document can be found at www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/1600/coronavirus/EssentialOSS-LOSStasks.pdf
