WA EMPLOYMENT SECURITY OPENS INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR PANDEMIC UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM + ESD EXPLAINER WEBINAR FOR REALTORS® SCHEDULED FOR THIS THURSDAY (4/23)

The WA Employment Security Department has opened the PUA program for independent contractors and self-employed workers. ESD will be providing a webinar specifically for REALTORS® this Thursday, April 23rd from 8:30am-9:30am. Information on how to register for the webinar will be provided in the next few days. In preparation, REALTORS® who may seek PUA should create a Secure Access Washington (SAW) account, and watch ESD’s new tutorial

The ESD – REALTORS® webinar will cover the online application process, how and when to file for PUA, eligibility issues, and documentation needs. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance is a federal program that allows self-employed people, independent contractors, part-time workers, and many people affected by COVID-19 to apply for unemployment, even though they normally aren’t eligible. The law requires everyone to apply for regular unemployment first, and be denied, before applying for PUA.

You can find materials on ESD’s Unemployment Page now. Including:

  • An application checklist to help you prepare

  • An eligibility checker to help understand who is eligible

  • Other information that will help you prepare to apply
