REALTORS®' Position on Tax Reform

We've received a lot of inquiries from members and the public regarding our position on Tax Reform...

WASHINGTON REALTORS® POSITION

“We are still looking into the details of this complicated proposal, but at first glance it appears that middle class homeowners are hurt by this proposal. Not only by capping MID, but by capping property tax deductions and doubling the standard deduction. We believe that our tax system should be reformed, but not on the backs of middle class homeowners. We’ll have further comments as we continue to study this proposal”

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® POSITION:

NAR President William E. Brown:

"We are currently reviewing the details of the tax proposal released today, but at first glance it appears to confirm many of our biggest concerns about the Unified Framework. Eliminating or nullifying the tax incentives for homeownership puts home values and middle class homeowners at risk, and from a cursory examination this legislation appears to do just that. We will have additional details upon a more thorough reading of the bill."
