NAR Director Elections

The WR Board of Directors meeting being held in conjunction with the Fall Business Conference is scheduled for Friday, September 15, 2023, in Yakima.  In addition, there will be a Virtual NAR Director Election on Friday, September 8, 2023. Please note there are two (2) important deadlines you will need to be aware of for State Directors to be eligible to vote during each of the meetings listed below.

For voting in the Virtual NAR Director Election – Friday, September 8, 2023
State Director changes must be submitted by Noon, Wednesday, August 9

For voting at the WR Board of Directors Meeting in Yakima – Friday, September 15, 2023
State Director changes must be submitted by Noon, Wednesday, August 16

Changes to your State Directors must be submitted by the above deadline(s) or they will not be qualified to vote. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS if names are received AFTER these deadlines.

As a friendly reminder, during the Spring Business Conference held in Tulalip on April 14, 2023, the Board approved the revision of the WR Bylaws. The revisions included removal of alternate directors to assure WR is compliant with the Washington Nonprofit Corporation Act that was passed into law during the 2021 Legislative Session.

Please be sure your association's directors are correctly listed on the attached Board list. If you have any questions, please contact Lori at lori.adler@warealtor.org. Per the WR bylaws, changes must be submitted in writing to the WR Office c/o Lori at lori.adler@warealtor.org.  

Requests for excused absences must also be submitted in writing.

In November 2021 the NAR Board of Directors approved sweeping governance changes, including changes to the composition, appointment timeline, performance expectations, and qualifications for NAR Directors. These changes will be in effect indefinitely. This means that WR’s NAR Director appointments must be submitted to NAR no later than September 15th annually. There is no exception to this timeline. To meet this deadline, WR must hold the election for NAR Directors prior to September 15th annually. Note: This applies to the NAR Directors seated in 2024 but elected in 2023.

 

All NAR Director Candidates must:

1. Complete the NAR Director application
   1. Self-certify that they have met the NAR qualifications for serving as a Director, and
   2. Are aware of and willing to perform to the NAR- established performance expectations
2. Complete the Washington REALTOR® NAR Director Affirmation Form

 

State Director allocations are determined using a formula based on the NAR membership count as of July 31^st (the “State Allocated Directors”) and may change as the number of members of NAR and/or WR change.

In addition to the State Allocated Directors, Washington will also be allotted one Director from a Small Association (defined as having between 1 – 499 members, “The Small Association Director”) and one Director from a Mid-size Association (defined as having between 500 – 1999 members, “The Mid-Size Association Director.

Each election may include all three categories of NAR Director as described above depending on vacancies. 

• State Allocated Directors:  Shall serve a three-year term.
• The Small Association Director:  Shall serve a two-year term.
• The Mid-Size Association Director:  Shall serve a two-year term.

 

July 31st, 2023

NAR Allocations are determined based on July 31st membership counts. NAR Director allocations will be published thereafter.

September 8th, 2023

Washington REALTORS® will host NAR Director online elections.

 

Current NAR Directors with continuing terms will not need to be re-elected.

If candidates qualify for more than one open NAR Director position during an election (e.g. small, medium, and state allocated), candidates may submit more than one Washington Realtor® NAR Director Affirmation form for each position they seek.

All Washington Realtor® candidates running for NAR Director must submit all requirements by the close of the Nominations Committee meeting on September 6th, 2023.
